Overview

The asset optimization trader will be part of a small team responsible for the commercial optimization of CCI power generation assets in Europe and the structuring and trading around a portfolio of complex deals with embedded flexibilities (e.g. gas storage, transportation, gas supply contracts, cross-commodity structures). The team, which relies heavily on quantitative analysis and bespoke software for their day-to-day pricing, optimization and risk management activities, is expanding to support a growing portfolio of assets in Europe.

 

The focus of the role will be the responsibilities for trading and optimizing around CCI’s power generation capacity and fuel sourcing portfolio, establishing and executing optimal hedging and dispatching strategies. Beyond short-term optimization, the role also offers the opportunity to be involved in a wider range of asset-related commercial efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Build a thorough understanding of the assets’ flexibility and market fundamentals to contribute to developing the optimal power asset dispatching strategies on the day-ahead, real-time and ancillary markets. 
  • Execute the short-term optimization strategies in the physical and financial markets.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the optimal long-term hedging strategy within a framework of risk and performance measures.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with plant operators, internal and external counterparties.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of operations processes, optimization and risk management tools.
  • Take responsibility for reporting and reconciliation of P&L and generation metrics in liaison with mid office teams.
  • Refine fundamental views on the market via quantitative/statistical analysis of prices, flows and market participants’ behaviors.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of master’s degree in a quantitative subject.
  • 1-3 years in an asset/structured trading role or a quantitative analysis role with exposure to physical energy assets.
  • Experience in power asset optimization and trade execution preferred.
  • Experienced managing options.
