NAESB Negotiator

Castleton Commodities International, a leading Merchant Commodity Trading and Investment firm is hiring a Negotiator with primary focus on North American Energy Standards Board (“NAESB”) contracts., This individual will serve as a liaison between counterparties and internal stakeholders (commercial, legal, credit and operations).  This position is an add to staff due to company growth and can be located in either Houston or Stamford.


  • Serves as primary point of contact and is responsible for handling all stages of the contract process from initial drafting to execution, for the NAESB Base Contract and associated special provisions. Familiarity with the NAESB Canadian Addendum and Credit Support Annex is a plus.
  • Coordinates, prepares, reviews and negotiates incoming and outgoing guarantees and guarantee amendments.
  • Prepares, reviews and negotiates Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreements
  • Maintains a comprehensive database of all completed and pending guarantees and master agreements, including daily comments/notes concerning recent conversations and decisions.
  • Responsible for consistent follow-up with counterparties and detailed record keeping.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties, including various administrative functions.  



  • Two years minimum with NAESB contract negotiation & administration
  • Sound knowledge of Guarantees, Confidentiality/Non-Disclosure Agreements, NAESB and CSA (2002 & 2006).


  • Bachelor’s Degree or Paralegal certificate from an accredited college or institution preferred
  • Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited institution a plus


  • Strong interpersonal skills and mature judgment (e.g., the ability to work effectively with various divisions of the company including in-house attorneys and trading desks)
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely (verbally and in writing), work independently and perform consistently in a high volume, fast paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.  Attention to detail a must.
  • High level of initiative, integrity and commercial instincts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office– EXCEL, ACCESS, MSWORD (2003 & 2010), Track Changes
  • Knowledge of the principles and procedures of the contracting process.
  • Ability to assess contract compliance and to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Knowledge of general trading business practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of commodity business practices and procedures preferred.
