Overview

Castleton Commodities International (www.cci.com) is hiring an In-House attorney in London who will be support a wide variety of CCI’s commercial activities with a focus on energy trading, M&A and structured finance transactions.  CCI will consider candidates directly from a law firm to those with in house experience supporting commodity trading activities.  This is an excellent opportunity to join a best in class global commodity merchant and legal team and gain exposure to all areas of the commodities industry.

Responsibilities

Trading Advisory:

  • Serve as a key advisor to commercial teams on trading agreements on deal structures and commercial advisory issues. Negotiate and draft a variety of contracts related to transactions in the physical and financial commodities markets (purchase and sale agreements, derivative agreements, netting agreements, etc.)
  • Collaborate with the trading, credit, risk, operations, tax, and compliance teams on a broad spectrum of matters impacting business operations.

M&A/Structured Finance:

Act as legal advisor on acquisition of assets, JV’s, and other M&A activity and the integration of those assets into the CCI portfolio. In addition, this role will be focused on structured finance activities.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Structuring, negotiating, and drafting relevant agreements
  • Liaising with external counsel.
  • Coordinating issues across the various internal departments.
  • Managing corporate financing arrangements, including account receivable purchase programs and repurchase agreements.

Litigation:
Negotiation of regulatory and dispute resolution matters.

 

General Corporate:

Additional responsibilities include the drafting of commercial contracts and general corporate legal work.

Qualifications

  • Significant applicable at a top rated law firm ideally with some experience working in house supporting a commodity trading business.
  • Qualification to practice in UK
  • Experience with Commodities trading is a must.  Prior experience within the Energy industry is a plus
  • Excellent negotiation, drafting and communication skills
  • Must be strategic thinker capable of competently and comfortably advising creative business development team and interacting with senior management
