    Position Summary


    Castleton Commodities International ( is hiring a Data Science Analyst to work with their Natural Gas Trading team in Calgary.  This is an excellent opportunity to work directly with trading team portfolio managers and build out their Natural Gas analytical library.  The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who has the ability to work under pressure in a fast moving environment. The candidate must have advanced computer science and programming knowledge and a strong interest in working with large datasets.  They must have a solid experience working with data analysis and predictive modeling using a variety of data tools to build and implement mathematical models.  The candidate will be routinely encouraged to provide creative analytical solutions to the existing modeling framework and develop new tools to support the portfolio managers.

    Your role and responsibilities vary widely and may include the following:-


    • Build, manage and streamline the data collection/storage and retrieval process for Front office analytics.
    • Build ad hoc software tools and user interfaces for the Front office.
    • Work on data mining / data visualization projects from company databases
    • Perform quantitative research and statistical studies on existing data
    • Generate proprietary data sets for use in modeling of market fundamentals
    • Refine and improve existing models to optimize performance
    • Research new modeling techniques across the data science space


    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Business Intelligence or related field of study is required. Masters or PhD preferred.
    • Strong programming experience in one or more of the following programming language: R, Python, Matlab.
    • Experience or education in Machine Learning/AI is preferred.
    • Experience in Big Data handling, storage of unstructured data, text mining/machine learning algos, natural language processing
    • Experience in building user interfaces (websites, GUIs, apps etc.)
    • Familiarity with webscraping and advanced HTML
    • Interest / experience in the Data Visualization field
    • Ideal candidate has minimum of 1+ year experience in an applicable role.
    • Individuals must exhibit strong communication skills, problem solving ability, and be able to work independently.
